What is GPRIS ?

Gaon Panchayat Resource Information System (GPRIS) aims for Generation of Village level Resource Online database for each Gaon Panchayat of prioritized districts i.e. the Resource Information in GIS using Remote Sensing for various themes like Land Use / Land Cover, Irrigation, Socio-economic data and many more. GPRIS is a Web based Gaon Panchayat Resource Information System for the state of Assam. It is envisioned as a comprehensive Geo-database of the State GIS data to facilitate dissemination of GP level information, Monitoring/ Decision Support for 3 tier Panchayati Raj Institutions in a single platform for developmental planning at grass root level. This System will provide inputs for various Govt. schemes like Krishi Sanchayee Yojana, Village Resource plan etc. It will serve objectives of Jan Bhagidaari or public participation in Geospatial governance applications and serve the objectives of space inputs for Governance as well as Digital India and unlock the issues for the development of selected Aspirational districts.

Forecasting Agricultural Output using Space Meteorology and Land Based Observation

  • The project was initially started as Crop Acreage and Production Estimation (CAPE) by Space Applications Centre, ISRO, Ahmadabad which was sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, Govt. of India since 1992 in Assam with kharif rice crop,mustard and Jute crop. Initially single forecast was done, but later on multiple forecasts were done by renaming the project as FASAL.

Monitoring of integrated watershed management programme (IWMP) watersheds

  • The Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) is one of the flagship programmes of Govt. of India in all states of the country being implemented by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR). The programme envisages to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded natural resources through watershed management initiative.

National Wetland Inventory & Assessment (NWIA)

  • Sponsored by the Space Applications Centre (ISRO), Ahmedabad, at the behest of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India, NWIA Phase I was carried out using 2006-07 timeframe satellite data and completed during 2010. All the wetlands of the state (size above 2.5 ha) including the rivers were mapped on 1:50,000 scale and a state wide data base on wetlands was created.

  • ASSAC equipped with the GIS infrastructure for mapping and data collection allows creating a digital database of any area with associated information related to it. Asset & Infrastructure mapping allows mapping the asset & infrastructure of an area such as Schools, Hospitals, Government office buildings, Drainage network, Water supply network etc

Thematic Mapping

  • In order to support land and environmental monitoring, management, and planning operations, ASSAC has created a number of thematic maps using remotely sensed data. Thematic maps focus on a certain theme or special topic and offer detailed information about a specific location. The availability of thematic maps prepared by ASSAC is relevant for Agriculture, Geology and Mining, Land Use and Land Cover (LULC), Forest and Natural Resource, Disaster management etc

Space Based Information Support For Decentralised Planning SIS-DP

  • Land Use Land Cover (LULC) is a critical for planning activities in general & more so in micro level planning for Villages and Panchayats. Regional centres of National Remote Sensing Centre have initiated a project title Space Based Information Support for Decentralized Planning (SIS-DP) under the National Natural Resource Management System (NNRMS). The project envisaged to map the LULC and other legacy thematic spatial information at 1:10,000 scale to provide space based support to decentralized planning at Panchayat Level.

Real Time Progress Monitoring

  • Several schemes under the government allow different construction works all over the state of Assam. However timely monitoring of these construction works are not done since it require huge manpower and logistics support. To bridge this gap GIS and Remote sensing acts as an effective tool for real-time monitoring of construction projects. ASSAC identified as the state nodal agency for carrying out GIS and Remote sensing works is equipped with technologies that help in real time progress monitoring
